The recently announced ‘Top 25 Finest Wines of India’list could startle a few. While the Bangalore based SDU Winery’s SDU Syrah Reserve 2012 emerged as the highest scorer, there were some upsets too. “Selection of India’s Finest Wines”, the blind wine tasting event, which took place on 16-17 October at the Royal Bombay Yacht Club, Mumbai, is an initiative of the Mumbai Wine Club and the organisers of the Mumbai Wine Festival. This prestigious list aims to offer a platform to showcase the finest wines from the portfolio of Indian wine producers.
These Top 25 wines were the high scorers out of the total 82 wines that were judged by a panel of 8 well-known wine professionals of India. Besides myself, the jury included Subhash Arora (Editor delWine, New Delhi), Alok Chandra (writer and wine professional Bangalore), Sonal Holland (WSET Diploma holding wine educator currently with ITC), Sanjay Menon, Craig Wedge, Vishal Kadakia (fine wine importers) and wine and spirits trainer and mixologist Shatbhi Basu (Mumbai). These wines were sourced from Sula Vineyards, Grover Zampa, Four Seasons, Fratelli Vineyards, Vintage Wi
nes (Reveillo), York Wines, Myra Vineyards, Vallone Vineyards, Pernod-Ricard Seagram’s Nine Hills, Charosa Vineyards, Domaine Chandon India, Alpine Vineyards, Big Banyan, Krsma Estates, Good Drop and the SDU Winery.
Why India’s Finest?
