Raising a Toast to Chandon
After years of research under the watchful eyes of international experts, Moët Hennessy, the international champagne company finally launched its first Indian sparkling wine range ‘Chandon’ in Mumbai.
The wines, Chandon Brut and Chandon Brut Rosé are two locally made sparkling wines from grapes grown in the Nashik region. Chandon is the first offering from Moët Hennessy Estates & Wines to be produced in and especially for India. Moet Hennessy organized two launch events, first one on 17thOctober, 2013 at Tote at the Turf, Mahalakshmi Race Course and the second one at the posh Aer bar in Four Seasons Hotel on 19th October, 2013. Both the events offered opportunities to get the first preview of the Chandon sparkling wines. The first event was a more serious trade and media focused event.
The second event witnessed a wide range of celebrity guests like AD Singh, Anu Dewan, Dino Morea, Madhoo Shah, Mandira Bedi, Masaba Gupta, Mehr Jesia Rampal, Nandita Mahtani, Natasha Poonawala, Neha Dhupia, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Shamita Shetty, Simone Singh, Sophie Choudry, Sushmita Sen etc. The celebrities, socialites and media professionals mingled with each other over a glass or two of the bubbly Chandon which emerged as the real star of the evening.
Chandon Brut is primarily made from Chenin Blanc and small blends of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and Chandon Brut Rosé is made from Shiraz and Pinot Noir.
Moët Hennessy has invested in a state-of-the-art green field winery in Dindori, a sub-region of the Nashik district known for growing high-quality grapes. Chandon has been created by Moët Hennessy’s team of international and local wine-makers and viticulturists, closely working with grape growers from the Nashik region. The wines have been crafted combining the finest local grapes with the centuries-old “method traditionnelle” to ensure the signature Chandon style.
The wines, now available in Mumbai are retailing at INR 1200 for Chandon Brut and INR 1400 for Chandon Brut Rosé. Chandon will be available at select wine retailers, hotels, restaurants and bars in the city. Following the launch in Mumbai, the wines will be introduced in New Delhi in November 2013 and all other major cities across India through 2014.
Speaking at the launch Mark F. Bedingham – Managing Director, Moët Hennessy Asia Pacific said, “Moët Hennessy has traditionally been a pioneer in developing sparkling wines in new locations around the world and India is the latest example. A recent addition to the “new world”, Nashik is certainly the wine-making heartland of India and offers grape growing conditions that are conducive to creating world-class sparkling wines. With the launch of Chandon, we aim to bring wine-making and the wine culture in India to new heights. Wine excellence is a priority for Moët Hennessy Estates & Wines and Chandon will allow us to share our passion for quality and commitment to our French legacy with the Indian market.”
As the world renowned champagne house produces a world class sparkling wine for the Indian market, it’s time to raise a toast to Chandon!
