‘Tis the season of Wine Events
The season of festivities is back and so are a host of wine festivals and events across the country. Here is a round up of the recently concluded Annapoorna World of Food India Fair and listing of some upcoming wine festivals and events that you wouldn't want to miss.
Be it Indian or imported wines, the wine lovers in the country are still in the process of discovering new styles, varieties and brands of wines. While such events provide accessibility to the consumers to visit and taste a wide range of wines, they also offer opportunities of direct interaction with the producers, various wine professionals which helps them enhance their knowledge about wines. Workshops, seminars, food and wine pairings, grape stomping, all these activities become an integral aspect of that entire learning process.
Annapoorna World of Food India Fair 2014
The annual food and wine event, Annapoorna World of Food India Fair 2014 was held from 24-26 September at the Bombay Exhibition Center, Mumbai. An interesting mix of exhibitors and visitors made the fair successful this year. Especially the ‘Tastes of Europe’ pavilion by the European union and World of Wines workshops by Tulleho served as great places to grasp some wine knowledge. In terms of participation from other wine regions, this jointly organized event betweenKoelnmese GmbH, Germany and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce andIndustry (FICCI)had a number of international agro-food and wine stalls, starting from Argentina, Afghanistan,Europe, Greece, and Korea to USA. There were also two Indian wine companies, Fusion Wines and Deccan Plateau, who show cased their wine portfolio at the fair.
Sofitel Wine Days Festival 2014
Sofitel Wine Days is an international festival that all Sofitel’s around the world is celebrating from September 22nd to October 31st 2014. Sofitel Mumbai BKC will showcase wines from seven wineries namely - Hugel & Fils, Bouchard Pere Fils, William Fevre, Paul Jaboulet, Perrin, Miraval, Gerard Bertrand and Dourthe. The hotel’s outlets Jyran, Tuskers and Pondichéry Café will feature set menus paired with wine during the entire fiesta. This month there are two events lined up for the Wine Days celebration. Wine Expo on 12th October, 2014 at Pondichéry Café and Sausage & Grills paired with wines on 30th October 2014 at the Kitchen Garden of Sofitel Mumbai.
Annual Sind’s Pune Wine Fest 2014
The Annual Sind’s Pune Wine Fest is scheduled to take place on 30 November 2014 atthe Poona Club. Members of expat clubs and representatives from various night clubs and bars are included in the list of invitees. Atleast 15 wineries will be showcasing their wines at the walk-around tastings event. The wines can be enjoyed with a mix of cheese, finger foods etc. There will also be a food and wine pairing session, cooking demo by chef, wine appreciation and cooking with wine sessions and many more engaging activities for the guests.
Bandra Wine Tasting Festival 2014
The 5th Bandra Wine Tasting Festival is scheduled to be held on 15-16 November in Bandra, Mumbai. Like previous years, the event will offer a gamut of food, wines from various regions of the world, imported and craft beers, single malts etc. For entertainment, there will be salsa, live bands, grape stomping etc. The same organisers also organise the Pune Wine Tasting Festival which is scheduled to be held in the second week of December at Rohi Villa Palace, Koregaon Park, Pune.
Mumbai Wine Festival 2014-2015
The Mumbai wine festival is back this year with many firsts and hordes of attractions. First, the event is going to take place in four different venues across four months starting Dec. The first wine festival is on 13-14 December at the Juhu Hotel, Juhu, next is on 10-11 January 2015 at Corona Garden, Bandra, 14-15 February 2015, Pier, Radio Club, Colaba and on 14-15 March 2015 at the Phoenix Market City, Kurla. The most interesting aspect of the event this year is the launch of “Selection of India’s Finest Wines” list. This initiative is to acknowledge the best wines of the country. The list will be updated every year. The jury for the selection this year includes, SubhashArora of delWine, ad man PrahladKakkar ,Sonal Holland of ITC Hotels, Wine writers and connoisseurs Alok Chandra and RojitaTiwari, Sanjay Menon of Sonarys and Sansula, Vishal Kadakia-The Wine Park, Craig Wedge-FineWinesnMore and mixologist and wine expert ShatbhiBasu.
The Grape Escapade 2015
They say it is not a wine festival but a Goan Lifestyle festival because this event is all about Goan food, a number of wines and loads of fun. The spirit of festivities is celebratory during those four days that the event takes place. The event that took place in Panjim, Goa in the beginning of February this year witnessed more than 50,000 visitors. And the organisers promise the event will be much bigger and better in 2015. (Dates are not announced yet)
Sula Fest 2015
The biggest and most popular wine event Sula Fest organized by Sula Vineyards at their winery will take place on 7th-8th February 2015. The organisers promise a number of new and interesting band line-ups, wine, beer and spirits participations and some interesting workshops.
